Income Tax Login, How to Reset ITR Password & E-Filing

Income tax login details. The users who want to login for e-filing ITR can follow two procedures. One is in offline mode and another is in online mode.  The details are as follows.

Login Details for Income Tax

Online Procedure-

To file ITR online, you have to enter the required data on the official e-filing portal and then submit it. The individuals who want to pay tax online have to file ITR 1 and ITR 4 forms. Follow are the below step by step procedure to login income tax.

  • Visit the official portal of Income-tax e-filing.
  • The official website is incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in.
  • After Registering Yourself then search for Registered User Tab.
  • Then select the ‘E-file’ menu.

  • After that click on the ‘Income Tax Return’ link.
  • On this page, PAN will be auto-prompt and then select the following options one by one Assessment Year/ ITR form/ Filing Type as original/Revised Return/ Submission Mode and finally select Online.
  • Click on the continue option.
  • Then fill the details as asked in the ITR form.
  • All the mandatory details should be filled.
  • Taxes paid and the Verification tab should be chosen for verification.
  • From the following options choose any one of the following. I would like to e-verify/ I would like to e-verify later within 120 days from the filing date./I don’t want to e- verify and would like to send the signed ITR-V through the post to “Centralized Processing Center, Income Tax Department, Bengaluru- 560 500” with the 120 days of the filing date.
  • Select the Preview and submit button.
  • Once verify all the given data is correct or not.
  • E-verification can be done by giving the EVC/OTP when asked.
  • Note- the EVC should be entered within the 60 seconds or else you have to auto-submit it.

Offline Method of E-Filing ITR

  • To e-file, your ITR by using the offline method, download the applicable ITR form offline.
  • The ITR utility using by the individual should be either Java Utility or Excel utility.
  • Visit the official portal of Income-tax e-filing.
  • The official website is incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in.
  • Download the ITR Forms/ File showing in the download options under IT Return preparation software.
  • Now extract the downloaded utility Zip file.
  • With the help of the extracted folders open the utility.
  • Fill the form with all the mandatory details asking in the form.
  • Calculate the tax after validating the ITR tabs.
  • XML should be saved once generating it.
  • After this, you can log in to the e-filing portal by giving the User ID/ PAN/ Password and captcha details.
  • Then here select the e-File menu and click on the Income Tax return Link.
  • To verify the income tax return, select any of the following options.
  • DSC Digital signature Certificate
  • EVC using Pre-validated Demat account details.
  • EVC using the pre-validated bank account details.
  • Aadhar OTP.
  • Already generated EVC through my account. Generate an EVC option or Bank ATM. The validity of such EVC is 72 hours from the time of generation.
  • I would like to e-verify later. Please remind me.
  • I don’t want to e-verify this income Tax return and would like to send signed ITR-V through the post.

The post will be sent to the “Centralized Processing Center, Income Tax Department, and Bengaluru-560500”.

After selecting any of the options from the above click continues. Then attach your ITR XML file. The file can be attached by choosing any of the verification options as follows.

Attach the DSC which is the signature file generated from the DSC management utility. This is used as the verification option. Or else attach the Aadhar OTP as the verification option. This OTP will be received on the mobile number which you have registered with UIDAI. If not this, you can also choose EVC through a bank account as the verification option. This EVC will also be received on the registered mobile number with the Bank only. Submit the ITR. Once submitting you can view your ITR file.

Login Password To Reset the E-Filing Income Tax-

If you have forgotten your e-filing password, you can again reset your password. Below are the key steps that can be followed for resetting your password-

  • Visit the official website home page of IT e-filing. Then select the “Reset” button. This option will be visible on the right-hand side of the page as shown in the below image.

  • Then you have to give your e-filing IT portal user ID (PAN). Once giving the ID, captcha details have to be entered. Then select “Continue” for leading the income tax reset password process.

  • Here you will be given four options, from which you can select any one which are as follows-

  • DSC Digital Signature Certificate Uploading.
  • Using e-filing OTP
  • Using Aadhar OTP
  • Answer Secret question
  • Once selecting the option give the OTP of the selected option or upload the file as per your choosing option. Then give the new password to finish the procedure of resetting the IT login password.
